Foreignization Strategy in the Quranic Translation by MoRA: Study of Surah Al-Baqarah

This study aims to find out in-depth about the application of foreignization strategies in translating Quran into Indonesian. The terms meaning accuracy source language (SL) and target (TL) as well its suitability with cultural context. research method used is content analysis adapted from Krippendorff (1980). Based on an strategy implemented by Translation Team Ministry Religious Affairs (MoRA) Republic Indonesia, it was found that 94 words phrases were foreignized translation Surah Al-Baqarah. Judging aspect meaning, equivalence, use Indonesian, vocabulary still accurate intended SL text users. However, some absorption vocabularies experience a shift broad, narrow, general, specific, those containing good bad values. Two factors influence translator implementing Quran, namely (a) condition Quranic text, which difficult translate (b) translator’s belief foreign retention (foreignization) can give nuances authenticity Arabic culture (Quran).
